About Us

The Forest Modernization Committee (FMC) is a peer-led forum bringing together First Nations forestry operators and industry partners to advance shared priorities in land stewardship, forestry operations, and policy improvement in British Columbia.
The committee reflects a practical, on-the-ground perspective representing those directly responsible for managing forest tenures and navigating regulatory, economic, and operational realities.
Our Purpose
We exist to:
-
Support members in addressing operational and policy challenges
-
Advance practical, solutions-focused improvements to forestry systems
-
Strengthen collaboration between First Nations and industry
-
Improve long-term outcomes for communities and the forest sector
The committee leverages the collective experience and strength of its members to move issues forward in a coordinated and effective way.

Our Approach
We as a group are:
-
Action-Oriented: Focused on solutions that can be implemented in real-world conditions.
-
Operationally Grounded: Led by forestry companies, tenure holders, and practitioners.
-
Partnership Driven: Built on collaboration between First Nations and industry.
-
Focused: Working with a shared set of priorities to drive meaningful change.
How We Work
We provide a structured but flexible forum where our members:
-
Share operational challenges and solutions
-
Align around priority policy issues
-
Support one another in advancing initiatives
-
Engage government with a unified, experience-based voice
The strength of the FMC is in its ability to combine stewardship leadership with operational expertise and industry partnership.
